Just out of curiosity, which forum skin do you mainly use? Is it the default version, or the sidebar-less version?

I use the default, the one with the sidebar. I like the feel of having that extra info when browsing the index and I think some of the links there come in handy. Plus, it's only on the index, so I don't think it is much of a problem. :)

I am the same way and like the default with the sidebar on the main page. I have always liked sites with a sidebar on one side (not both sides, that I feel is to much makes the post info in the middle to small)
looks good to me.

I too have always liked the sidebar on the forum home page. As long as it doesn't get to cluttered. Highlights and key points to the site are about it. Maybe one block to give congrats, new item, or small ad.

+1 for the sidebar. that's the only way i can add a few more vertical banners without annoying my guests
